The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado has charged two Mexican nationals, Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis, 41, and Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira, 24, with unlawful possession of ammunition. The charge pertains to unlawful possession of ammunition by aliens admitted under a nonimmigrant visa.
The allegations arose from a March 26, 2025, traffic stop conducted by detectives from the Fremont County Sheriff's Office in Canon City. Martinez Solis consented to a vehicle search during which detectives reportedly found approximately 150 boxes of .308 ammunition and about 30 boxes of 7.62 ammunition. Each box was labeled as containing 1,000 rounds.
The investigation is being led by the Denver Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations, along with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office. They are receiving assistance from the Denver Field Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section of the United States Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution.
This case forms part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations. It combines resources from the Department's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
The complaint's charges are merely allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
