In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Preston James Campbell, age 42, has been sentenced to a significant prison term following his conviction for assaulting a federal officer. In November 2024, Campbell was found guilty by a jury for assaulting a federal officer using a deadly or dangerous weapon.

U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle sentenced Campbell to 130 months in prison. This imprisonment will be followed by three years of supervised release. He also imposed an additional 21-month term for Campbell's violation of a prior supervised release, resulting in a total sentence of 151 months.

According to trial evidence, Campbell had previous federal convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm and assault causing serious bodily injury. After violating the terms of his supervised release in 2024, a warrant was issued for his arrest. During the arrest attempt, body camera footage showed Campbell advancing on a Deputy U.S. Marshal with a knife. The deputy successfully blocked and deflected the attack, thus preventing serious injuries.

Campbell is currently in custody and awaits transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals, Creek County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police, Bristow Police Department, and Kellyville Police Department. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys George Jiang and Elliot Anderson.
