A Las Vegas woman was sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty of mail theft and destruction of mailboxes. The sentence, delivered by United States District Judge Cristina D. Silva, includes an additional three years of supervised release.

Court records indicate that Amanda Gonzalez-Valerio engaged in criminal activities between June 20, 2023, and September 4, 2024, targeting post office locations. Gonzalez-Valerio used a pry bar to breach locked post office boxes, stealing mail from more than ten individuals during the course of her activities.

Additionally, on September 10, 2023, she targeted a post office box rented by a Las Vegas casino, taking a winning betting ticket from a recent parlay bet win. The ticket was mailed back to the casino by the victim. Gonzalez-Valerio subsequently cashed the ticket and obtained $3,377.60.

This January, Gonzalez-Valerio admitted guilt to charges including theft of mail and destruction of letter boxes. United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada announced the outcome of the case.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service, and Assistant United States Attorney Justin Washburne led the prosecution. The public is encouraged to report mail theft or related crimes to the United States Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455.
