Brendan Kaleb Rains, a 26-year-old resident of Ada, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for each of two felony assault charges: Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Indian Country. The sentences are to be served concurrently, as announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The investigation leading to these charges was carried out by the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. On June 11, 2024, Rains pleaded guilty to the charges following an incident on August 29, 2023. Two others joined Rains in forcing entry into a residence in Stonewall, Oklahoma, where he attacked an occupant with a club, causing serious injuries. The crimes were committed within the Chickasaw Nation Reservation in Pontotoc County.
The sentencing was conducted by the Honorable John F. Heil, III, of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Until transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility, Rains will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve his non-paroleable sentence. The United States was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Gross.
