Bryan County man pleads guilty to false statement in firearm purchase case

Jonathon Mark Brinlee, a resident of Calera, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. This announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Brinlee, 39, admitted to the charge, which could result in up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of as much as $250,000.

The incident occurred on November 11, 2024, when Brinlee provided a false statement to a licensed firearm dealer, claiming he was not under a court order when he actually was. This breach was uncovered through an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police.

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered. The final sentence will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge, who will take into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.

Brinlee is currently held by the United States Marshals Service as he awaits sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly.
