A Charleston resident, Antwaun Winbush, 45, entered a guilty plea on April 4, 2025, to federal drug charges involving methamphetamine. Winbush admitted to being in possession of approximately 141.8 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute the substance in Putnam County on March 25, 2024. Furthermore, he admitted to possessing 227 grams of methamphetamine, 8 grams of cocaine, and 14.7 grams of fentanyl in Jackson County on October 4, 2021, with similar distribution intentions.
Winbush is due for sentencing on July 9, 2025. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years, which could extend to 40 years. Additional penalties include at least four years of supervised release and a fine of up to $5 million.
The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston, who praised the contributions of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the Charleston Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in the investigation.
The hearing was overseen by Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. Assistant United States Attorney Gabriel Price is leading the prosecution of the case.
