Senior U.S. District Court Judge John A. Mendez has sentenced Adam Lee, 38, from Orangevale, California, to a five-year and four-month prison term. Lee was convicted of bank fraud, possession of stolen mail, and possession of mail keys or locks, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Court documents detail that Lee acquired and counterfeited postal keys to steal mail from mailboxes. From the stolen mail, he retrieved identifying and financial information, along with bank checks belonging to others. Lee attempted to negotiate, deposit, or cash these stolen checks. Together with co-defendant Windy Lund, Lee handled over $273,000 in stolen checks, which they planned to negotiate or possessed with the intent to negotiate.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliot C. Wong prosecuted the case. Windy Lund is set to be sentenced on April 22, 2025, in front of Judge Mendez.
