A Charles City man has been sentenced to over four years in federal prison for illegal gun possession. Dashaune Terrell Burns-Johnson, 32 years old, pleaded guilty on October 23, 2024, to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Court evidence showed that on May 22, 2024, Burns-Johnson took drugs and a loaded firearm to a neighbor's house in Charles City, where he pointed the firearm at someone. He has previous convictions for felony and misdemeanor domestic abuse assault.

Burns-Johnson's sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Cedar Rapids. He received a 57-month prison sentence and a subsequent three-year term of supervised release. The federal system does not allow for parole. Burns-Johnson is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal, awaiting transfer to a federal prison.
