California DOJ investigates Stockton officer-involved shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating an officer-involved shooting (OIS) in Stockton, California. The incident occurred on Monday, April 7, 2025, at approximately 11:14 a.m. and involved personnel from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department. The shooting resulted in the death of one individual.

The investigation is being conducted under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates the DOJ to independently review such incidents. Upon completion of the investigation, findings will be submitted to the DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for an independent review.
