A case involving a methamphetamine distribution ring in Casper, Wyoming, has concluded with the sentencing of four individuals. William J. Varney, Jolyn K. Furley, Julia Carlene Deshaw, and Gerald Dehnert were all sentenced for their roles in the drug trafficking operation which sourced methamphetamine from Thornton, Colorado.

William J. Varney, aged 57, received a sentence of 235 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute. Judge Alan B. Johnson sentenced Varney on March 14 in Cheyenne following his guilty plea.

Jolyn K. Furley, a 50-year-old from Thornton, was sentenced to 168 months in prison with five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. She was sentenced on March 28, also by Judge Johnson, after entering her guilty plea in December.

Julia Carlene Deshaw, 56, was sentenced to 120 months in prison and five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, and aiding and abetting. Judge Johnson imposed her sentence on March 14 in Cheyenne.

Gerald Dehnert, 65, received a 97-month prison sentence followed by five years of supervised release for similar charges. He pleaded guilty on January 8, and Judge Johnson sentenced him on April 1.

Officials revealed that in August and September of 2023, the Central Enforcement Team assembled by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation was alerted to methamphetamine distribution activities conducted by Julia Deshaw and William Varney in the Natrona County area. Their investigation showed that Deshaw, Varney, and Dehnert frequently traveled to Colorado to retrieve methamphetamine for redistribution, with Furley identified as their supplier.

The investigation credit goes to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, and the Mills Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Z. Seth Griswold handled the prosecution of the case.
