Bryson J. England, a 43-year-old resident of Oak Hill, has been sentenced to two years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possessing a firearm as a felon. The sentencing took place today in Beckley, West Virginia.

Court documents reveal that on February 2, 2024, England was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by law enforcement in Raleigh County. During the stop, officers found a loaded Armscor model M1911-AU FS .45-caliber pistol on England and an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle inside the vehicle. England was aware he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction for unlawful wounding in January 2003.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the sentencing, highlighting the investigative work done by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the West Virginia State Police. Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk imposed the sentence, with Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons prosecuting the case.

This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The Department of Justice launched a strategy to strengthen PSN by fostering trust, supporting community efforts to prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
