America First Legal (AFL) has announced a settlement with Ally Financial regarding a lawsuit that questioned the company's employment practices concerning race and sex discrimination. The legal action, initiated by AFL on June 4, 2024, alleged violations of civil rights laws, including the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
In its public filings, Ally Financial reportedly disclosed practices related to race and sex balancing, as well as incentivizing executive leaders to prioritize diversity and representation within the workforce. The mention of demographic data in its SEC filings suggested possible adherence to race- and sex-based quotas, a move questioned by AFL.
Following the initiation of the lawsuit, Ally Financial amended its corporate communications, withdrawing references and commitments to its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs from its publicly accessible documents, notably its SEC Form-10K.
Andrew Block, Senior Counsel at America First Legal, emphasized AFL's commitment to addressing discrimination issues. "AFL is proud to have brought this lawsuit to vindicate our client’s rights and to defend the principle of equal treatment under the law. We are pleased to have reached a mutually agreed-upon settlement in this case," stated Block.
America First Legal has vowed to continue its efforts against unlawful discrimination targeting American workers by scrutinizing major corporations across the nation.
