Charles Eugene Moore, a 37-year-old resident of Charleston, has been sentenced to three years and five months in prison. The sentencing, announced today, comes after Moore was found guilty of distributing a quantity of fentanyl. In addition to the prison term, Moore will also be subject to three years of supervised release following his incarceration.
According to details from court documents and statements made in court, Moore was involved in two drug transactions in Charleston. On April 22, 2022, he sold approximately 28 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl and caffeine to a confidential informant. A week prior, on April 15, 2022, Moore had sold about 17 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl and xylazine, known as "Tranq," to another confidential informant. At the time of these offenses, Moore was on parole for a previous conviction of second-degree murder, a sentence he received from the Kanawha County Circuit Court in 2008.
The announcement of Moore's sentence was made by Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston, who praised the Drug Enforcement Administration's investigative efforts. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy B. Wolfe, with the sentence imposed by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.
