Abraham Gonzalez Romero, a 23-year-old Venezuelan national, has been charged with forcibly assaulting a federal officer. His first appearance in federal court took place recently.

The charges against Gonzalez Romero are based on an affidavit. It details how he entered the United States at or near Eagle Pass, Texas, without authorization on or around September 20, 2023.

On February 28, 2025, officers from the ICE Denver Fugitive Operations Unit and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Denver encountered Gonzalez Romero after his release from the Denver County jail. The officers, wearing visibly marked ICE badges, attempted to make contact with him. Gonzalez Romero then jumped a handrail and attempted to flee. An officer tried to block his path, but Gonzalez did not evade the officer and collided with him, causing both to fall to the ground. Gonzalez was subsequently subdued and arrested.

The United States Attorney’s Office's Violent Crimes and Immigration Enforcement Section is handling the case. It remains important to note that the charges are allegations and Gonzalez Romero is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
