The Department of Health and Human Services in North Dakota is announcing an internship opportunity for law students with a focus on child support. This is a full-time, paid internship located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, for a duration of two years and includes the possibility of earning externship credit. The role is open to a committed first-year law student (1L) advancing to a second-year (2L) who wishes to gain valuable experience by working alongside seasoned attorneys and IV-D program staff.

Interns will have the chance to develop their skills in civil law areas such as divorce, custody, and child support, and will be provided opportunities to represent the state in court. Interns will engage with various legal tasks, including preparing calculations, declarations, and exhibits for child support obligations as well as drafting legal documents throughout all phases of a case.

Applicants must be current JD students, expected to graduate in 2026, and willing to commit for the full term of the internship. Interested candidates should apply by April 13, 2025, and ensure all applications are submitted before the 11:59 pm deadline. Applications can be submitted online at the provided government career website.

The Department emphasizes its commitment to maintaining nondiscriminatory practices, adhering to the North Dakota Human Rights Act. Questions about the internship or requests for accommodations can be directed to Sarah Cannon via phone or email.
