The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced the indictment of Daniel Martinez-Canjay, a 34-year-old from Mexico, on a charge of illegal reentry into the United States. As noted by Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, the indictment claims that Martinez-Canjay was discovered in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, on November 13, 2024, after having been previously deported.

The indictment further alleges that Martinez-Canjay had been removed from the United States on April 24, 2019, through Hidalgo, Texas, and reentered without obtaining legal permission. The case is being handled by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations, with Assistant U.S. Attorney David C. Williams overseeing the prosecution.

Penalties for the offense under federal law include a maximum of two years' imprisonment, a term of supervised release, and a possible fine. Sentencing, following a guilty verdict, will be determined by a judge based on federal statutes and sentencing guidelines. Authorities remind the public that indictments are merely allegations, and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
