A Johnston man, identified as the leader of a fraud conspiracy involving stolen personal identifications to secure financing for Land Rovers, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Dennis Odoom, 27, confessed to a federal judge that he recruited others into the scheme. He admitted to providing a co-conspirator with a fake ID and driving them to a New Hampshire dealership to collect a Land Rover valued at $96,256 using fraudulently obtained credit. The accomplice expected $2,000 in payment from Odoom.

Court documents also indicate that fraudulent financing was used by co-conspirators to purchase another Land Rover from a Rhode Island dealership for $111,183.

U.S. District Court Judge Melissa R. Dubose sentenced Odoom today. His sentence includes three years of supervised release following incarceration and a $1,000 fine. Restitution will be decided later by the court. Odoom pleaded guilty on December 12, 2024, to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges.

Roy Sweets, 27, of Pawtucket and co-defendant in this case, pleaded guilty on March 18, 2025, to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and is set for sentencing on June 10, 2025.

Another defendant involved is Adalberto Mauricio Romero, 28, of Providence who faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Assistant United States Attorney Paul F. Daly Jr. is prosecuting these cases. The investigation was conducted by Warwick and Bedford Police Departments along with Homeland Security Investigations and the Department of Labor Office of Inspector General.
