Corey Whittico, a 22-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court following Whittico's involvement in a social media incident where he livestreamed himself brandishing a pistol equipped with a machine gun conversion device while traveling from Maryland into the District. During the broadcast, Metropolitan Police officers observed over a kilogram of marijuana stashed in the car's back seat.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr., alongside Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Whittico entered a guilty plea on December 17, 2024, for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. In addition to his prison sentence, U.S. District Court Judge John D. Bates imposed three years of supervised release on Whittico.

Court documents reveal that on December 19, 2023, at approximately 3:23 p.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department watched live footage on Instagram linked to an account known to belong to Whittico. The video showed him as a front-seat passenger pointing his camera out the windshield while driving from Maryland into Washington D.C.

Whittico then turned the camera toward himself and displayed a black Glock handgun modified with an aftermarket machine gun conversion device known as a "switch." This device converts semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic ones. Shortly after, he reached into the vehicle's backseat and showcased bags containing what appeared to be marijuana.

Officers monitoring Whittico’s livestream proceeded to Clay Terrace neighborhood in Northeast Washington, where they located him sitting in the passenger seat of a white Honda Accord. A traffic stop was conducted on East Capitol Street SE when officers noticed occupants attempting to conceal something under one of the seats.

During their search, officers discovered three packages of marijuana weighing over three pounds—exceeding district law which permits possession of two ounces for personal use—and recovered firearms including a modified Glock 27 loaded with 17 rounds and another Glock equipped with additional features loaded with 26 rounds.

As previously convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to an April conviction for robbery in Prince George’s County resulting initially ten-year sentence (with eight years six months suspended), this case against Corey Wittco was investigated by Metropolitan Police Department prosecuted Assistant US Attorneys Jared English Paul Courtney
