A Davenport man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for firearm possession as a felon and Armed Career Criminal. The sentencing took place on March 18, 2025.
Dontae Lamonte Burrage, aged 36, was pursued by members of a bail bond company on February 26, 2022, due to multiple outstanding arrest warrants. During the pursuit, Burrage attempted to evade capture and discarded a loaded pistol. Burrage's criminal history includes six prior state felony drug convictions, which legally prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. As an Armed Career Criminal, he faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years.
Following his imprisonment term, Burrage will undergo five years of supervised release. It is important to note that there is no parole available in the federal system.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation was conducted by the Davenport Police Department.
