U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced the arrest of Shawn Demmick, a 33-year-old resident of Tonawanda, New York. Demmick faces charges related to the distribution of child pornography, a crime that carries a potential sentence ranging from five to twenty years in prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly is overseeing the case. He revealed that in December 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a Cybertip about an individual uploading or sharing eight files containing child pornography on the Kik application on December 19, 2024. The suspect's screen name was identified as “sirbannedalot.” An investigation linked this account to Demmick.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia and the Town of Tonawanda Police Department headed by Chief James Stauffiger conducted the investigation resulting in this complaint.
It is important to note that being charged with a crime does not imply guilt, as every defendant is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
