Pedro Solano-Azamar, a 27-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for his involvement in an alien smuggling conspiracy. The announcement was made by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Chief Patrol Agent Robert N. Garcia of the United States Border Patrol's Swanton Sector.

Solano-Azamar had previously pleaded guilty to the charges. He admitted that on May 15, 2023, he traveled from North Carolina to Northern New York with four co-conspirators and smuggled 16 Mexican citizens who had entered the United States illegally from Canada. After serving his prison sentence, Solano-Azamar will face deportation to Mexico.

The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Stitt.
