Amy Elizabeth Curry, a former office manager at Silver Bluff, LLC, a senior assisted living facility in Canton, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for embezzling over $1.5 million from her employer. U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson announced the sentencing, which includes three years of supervised release and an order for Curry to pay $1,469,407.24 in restitution to the facility.

Curry's fraudulent activities took place between December 2022 and April 2023 while she served as both office manager and bookkeeper at Silver Bluff. Her role provided her access to the facility's bank accounts and accounting records. During this period, Curry executed at least 154 unauthorized bank transfers to accounts controlled by herself and her then-boyfriend identified as J.C.

To conceal her actions, Curry deleted transaction histories and altered notification settings on the accounts to prevent detection by Silver Bluff employees and management. She also manipulated bank statements by making handwritten notes falsely indicating that these transfers were related to payroll expenses.

Court documents revealed that Curry used the stolen funds for personal expenditures such as purchasing a pick-up truck and gambling activities with J.C., amounting to over $700,000 spent at casinos.

On December 11, 2023, Curry pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges. She is expected to report to a federal prison once designated.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville with contributions from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Haywood County Sheriff’s Office during their investigation into the embezzlement scheme.

U.S. Attorney Ferguson expressed gratitude towards these agencies for their diligent work on this case.
