In a recent court decision, a Mobile man has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence follows an incident in September 2024 when members of the Mobile Police Department stopped Jones during a traffic stop. At that time, Jones was found with two firearms, one equipped with a machinegun conversion device known as a "Glock switch," which can convert a pistol into a fully automatic weapon.

Jones admitted to law enforcement that he understood how the Glock switch functioned and had previously used the weapon with the device attached. As part of his sentencing, Judge Granade imposed not only the prison term but also ordered three years of supervised release following his discharge from prison. Additionally, the firearm and conversion device were forfeited to the United States.

The investigation was conducted by the Mobile Police Department alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Beth Stepan prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

This case is associated with Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
