A Honduran national, Orlin Saul Hernandez-Torrez, has pleaded guilty to illegal reentry into the United States after being removed. The plea was entered on March 13, 2025, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.
Court records reveal that Hernandez-Torrez, aged 48, had previously been deported from the U.S. on two occasions: April 25, 2005, and November 8, 2019. He was found again in the Eastern District of Louisiana on March 20, 2024. At that time, he did not have authorization from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to return.
The case is overseen by United States District Judge Susie Morgan, who has scheduled sentencing for June 17, 2025. Hernandez-Torrez could face up to two years in prison and a fine reaching $250,000. Additionally, he may be subjected to up to one year of supervised release and must pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the investigative efforts of the United States Customs and Border Protection agency. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri from the General Crimes Unit.
