South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is leading a coalition of 15 state attorneys general in support of the U.S. Department of Justice's Joint Task Force to Combat Antisemitism. The coalition sent a letter to Leo Terrell, Head of the Task Force, commending the DOJ for its efforts in implementing President Trump's vision for addressing antisemitism and enforcing immigration laws.
Attorney General Wilson stated, "For too long, universities have enabled an environment where terrorist sympathizers spread hate and disrupt education." He criticized the previous administration, saying, "Under the Biden administration, foreign agitators were allowed to promote extremism unchecked. But with President Trump’s leadership, we are taking action to hold both individuals and institutions accountable."
The coalition includes attorneys general from Georgia, West Virginia, Mississippi, Iowa, North Dakota, Florida, Oklahoma, Montana, Louisiana, Indiana, Missouri, Utah, South Dakota, and Kansas. They expressed concerns about rising antisemitic activities on university campuses and called for stricter enforcement against foreign nationals involved in anti-American demonstrations.
The letter emphasized the need for enforcing immigration laws and holding universities accountable for tolerating antisemitic rhetoric. The attorneys general also praised recent DOJ actions such as the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil for involvement in radical campus protests.
Wilson added that they stand united in ensuring no foreign national abuses their status to promote violence or extremism: "Our coalition fully supports the Joint Task Force," he said. "We will assist in any way necessary to uphold our laws and protect Jewish students."
The attorneys general reaffirmed their commitment to working with the DOJ to combat antisemitism and ensure universities take appropriate measures against hate and extremism on campuses.
