Honduran national pleads guilty to illegal reentry after deportation

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Evin Enrique Funez-Cruz, a 22-year-old Honduran national, has pleaded guilty to reentering the United States after deportation. The plea was entered on March 12, 2025, and relates to violations of Title 8, United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and (b)(1).

Court documents reveal that Funez-Cruz was apprehended in St. Tammany Parish around January 6, 2025. He had previously been deported to Honduras on June 21, 2024.

Funez-Cruz could face up to ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in this investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
