The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection has received five applications for the vacancy in Department 2 of the Seventh Judicial District Court, Chief Justice Douglas Herndon announced. The position became available following the retirement of the Honorable Gary Fairman, which will take effect in early April.

Eligible candidates were required to have a minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including two years practicing in Nevada. The interviews are set for March 11, 2025, and will be conducted in Ely. These proceedings will be publicly accessible through a live stream on the Supreme Court's YouTube channel. After conducting interviews, the Commission is expected to nominate three finalists for Governor Joe Lombardo's consideration.

The Commission consists of seven permanent members: the Supreme Court Chief Justice, three non-attorney members appointed by the Governor, and three attorneys appointed by the State Bar of Nevada. Appointment restrictions ensure no more than two permanent members come from any single political party or county. For district court vacancies like this one, an additional two temporary members join from within that judicial district—one non-attorney selected by the Governor and one attorney chosen by the State Bar—resulting in a total of nine commission members.
