Twenty-eight individuals have been charged in a Manhattan federal court with racketeering and other crimes, following an extensive investigation into the Valentine Avenue Crew. The charges include participating in a racketeering enterprise, committing violent crimes such as murder, engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, distributing narcotics, and using firearms in connection with drug trafficking operations. This group has allegedly operated on Valentine Avenue in the Bronx for over three decades.
Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky stated: "Today, we have filed charges against twenty-eight alleged members of a violent drug trafficking gang that held an entire neighborhood of this city hostage for over three decades... It is a brutal reality that has lasted for far too long. It ends now."
The indictment follows collaborative efforts by several law enforcement agencies. DEA Special Agent Frank A. Tarentino commented on the significance of these charges: “Today’s indictment against the Valentine Avenue Crew and its members shows the commitment the Drug Enforcement Administration and our law enforcement partners have when targeting drug trafficking organizations...”
FBI Acting Assistant Director Leslie R. Backschies remarked: “For over three decades, these 28 Valentine Avenue Crew members allegedly protected their illicit narcotics distribution scheme... The FBI remains committed to dismantling all criminal organizations..."
NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch added: “The Valentine Avenue Crew created immense fear within their community for decades... These indictments send a clear message: this era of lawlessness ends today.”
Some defendants were already in custody on related charges, while others were arrested recently or remain at large. Those apprehended are expected to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger.
The case will be handled by the Office's Violent and Organized Crime Unit with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael R. Herman, Timothy Ly, and Thomas John Wright leading the prosecution.
The charges outlined are allegations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
