A Turkish citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of illegal re-entry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the indictment, which names Izzet Kurt, 60, as the sole defendant.
The indictment alleges that Kurt was found in western Pennsylvania on or about February 25, 2025. He had previously been removed from the U.S. on March 15, 2018, following a conviction in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for conspiracy to bring unauthorized aliens into the country for profit.
Due to his prior conviction for an aggravated felony, Kurt faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and Kurt's prior criminal history according to federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson is prosecuting the case for the government. The investigation leading to this indictment was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation and that Kurt is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
