A man in the United States illegally has been charged with high-speed flight from an immigration checkpoint and conspiracy to transport illegal aliens. The charges were filed in federal court following an incident on March 2, 2025.

Court documents reveal that Roberto Rodrigo Velazquez-Lopez allegedly drove a sedan with Texas license plates through a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 25 in Doña Ana County, New Mexico. He reportedly ignored agents' commands to stop and continued northbound at speeds reaching approximately 110 miles per hour before stopping near mile marker 40.

Upon his arrest, Velazquez-Lopez admitted to being illegally present in the country and having two individuals concealed in the trunk of his vehicle. In total, four illegal aliens were found inside the car.

During a post-Miranda interview, Velazquez-Lopez claimed he was instructed to transport illegal aliens from El Paso, Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico as a means of repaying a debt. He also confessed to previously transporting illegal aliens on four separate occasions.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Holland S. Kastrin and Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar of the U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector.

The case is under investigation by the U.S. Border Patrol and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jackson Dering.

"A criminal complaint is merely an allegation," authorities stated. "All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
