A Cranston woman has been found guilty in Kent County Superior Court for her involvement in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in 2020. Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced the verdict against Skyla Gilroy, aged 24, who was convicted of driving to endanger resulting in death and failing to stop after an accident that resulted in death.

The jury reached its decision on March 5, 2025, after a four-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Luis M. Matos. The sentencing is scheduled for May 23, 2025.

Attorney General Neronha commented on the case: “Hit and runs are particularly tragic crimes made worse by a driver failing to take responsibility in the moment. Had this defendant immediately reported the collision, the outcome may have been different. Instead, she will undoubtedly serve a significant sentence for her crimes. My thoughts are with Donald’s family, and I hope they can find some closure knowing that justice has been served."

The incident took place on December 22, 2020, when Warwick Police responded to a report of a man struck by a vehicle on Airport Road in Warwick. Upon arrival, officers found Donald Boss lying unresponsive on the road. Witnesses testified that Boss and two others had gone to Airport Road to purchase drugs. An argument ensued when Boss approached the seller's vehicle driven by Gilroy. As she accelerated away from the scene with Boss still holding onto the car, he fell and later died from his injuries.

Video surveillance captured footage of the incident involving a blue Nissan Rogue with three occupants inside. Investigators identified Gilroy as the driver through video evidence and confirmed her connection to the vehicle involved.

Warwick Police Chief Colonel Bradford E. Connor stated: “A man died because of this defendant’s choice to leave the scene of accident. I hope Donald’s family feels a sense of closure knowing this defendant will be held accountable for her crimes."

Assistant Attorney General John Corrigan along with Sergeant John Zaborski and Detective Sokphannareth Chea led the investigation and prosecution efforts.
