David Daniyan, a 60-year-old resident of Brooklyn, New York, has pleaded guilty to charges related to bank fraud and money laundering conspiracies. The schemes were led by Oluwaseun Adekoya, a 39-year-old Nigerian citizen residing in Cliffside Park, New Jersey. Acting United States Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI, announced the development.
Daniyan admitted to conspiring with Adekoya to commit bank fraud and money laundering. He used personal information obtained from individuals across the United States to recruit others who impersonated these individuals using fake driver’s licenses. This was done to fraudulently obtain cash, checks, loans at financial institutions, and merchandise from retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue. Daniyan also confessed to laundering proceeds from the fraud by purchasing additional fake licenses and depositing fraudulent checks into accounts under victims' names controlled by coconspirators. The scheme resulted in over $1.7 million in losses nationwide.
Court documents reveal that Daniyan has been living in the U.S. without authorization since at least the 1990s under various aliases after being previously convicted under a stolen identity.
Several other defendants face charges related to this case:
- Oluwaseun Adekoya is charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and nine counts of aggravated identity theft.
- Kani Bassie of Brooklyn faces one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft.
- Davon Hunter of Richmond, Virginia; Jermon Brooks; Christian Quivers; and Crystal Kurschner are each charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft.
The indictment's charges are accusations only; these defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
This prosecution stems from an ongoing investigation initiated after Daniyan's arrest in May 2022 alongside Gaysha Kennedy and Victor Barriera by Cohoes Police Department while attempting bank fraud in the Capital Region.
Initially indicted with other coconspirators such as Jerjuan Joyner, Akeem Balogun, Danielle Cappetti, and Lesley Lucchese in December 2023 for their roles in the conspiracy—Sherry Ozmore among others have pled guilty.
Daniyan faces sentencing on July 10, 2025. He could receive up to 30 years for bank fraud conspiracy plus additional time for other charges totaling over fifty years if maximum penalties apply along with restitution exceeding $1.7 million dollars while agreeing forfeiture nearly $100k seized during investigations conducted by federal authorities including possible deportation post-incarceration due immigration violations discovered through proceedings handled within justice system parameters outlined statutory guidelines applicable respective offenses committed under jurisdictional purview laws governing conduct adjudicated
