A Mexican national, Rodrigo Valdovinos-Hernandez, was sentenced by United States District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey for reentering the United States illegally after being previously removed. Valdovinos-Hernandez, also known as "Rodrigo Tejada-Valdovinos" and "Rodrigo Valdovinos," is 38 years old and a citizen of Mexico.

Court documents reveal that Valdovinos-Hernandez was discovered in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 25, 2023, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials following his arrest by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on state charges. He had been deported twice before: once in September 2009 and again in November 2012.

After spending approximately 18 months in federal custody, he was sentenced to time served. This marks his third felony conviction while unlawfully present in the United States; previous convictions include Attempt Burglary and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle in Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada.

Valdovinos-Hernandez pleaded guilty to one count of deported alien found in the United States.

The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Sue Fahami for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke. The case was investigated by ICE's Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.

The public is encouraged to report crimes and suspicious activity by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or completing an online tip form.
