John A. Sarcone III appointed as U.S. attorney for Northern District of New York

Attorney General Pamela Bondi has announced the appointment of John A. Sarcone III as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York. Mr. Sarcone is set to begin his new role on March 17.

In his capacity as U.S. Attorney, Mr. Sarcone will be the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Northern District of New York. He will oversee a team comprising 49 Assistant U.S. Attorneys, four Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys, 41 support staff members, and nine contract support staff members. His responsibilities include prosecuting federal criminal offenses and representing the United States in civil litigation within the district and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Mr. Sarcone expressed his gratitude by stating: “Coming from a humble, blue-collar background – growing up in Croton-on-Hudson, having the same teachers at Croton High School as my parents had, and with my grandmother and children also graduating from that school, and having worked full-time while going at night to the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University– I am deeply humbled and honored to have been named U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York."

He added: “I shall carry out my duties faithfully and with steadfast dedication to our nation, community, and the citizens of the Northern District of New York."

Sarcone thanked both Attorney General Bondi and President Trump for their trust in him: “Thank you, Attorney General Bondi, for trusting me to carry out this important mission and most importantly thank you President Trump for once again having faith and confidence in me to do my part to accomplish one of your most important tasks – to restore public confidence and trust in our government and the Department of Justice.”

Based in Albany, Mr. Sarcone brings years of experience as a public servant and lawyer. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Northeast and Caribbean Regional Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration where he managed federal buildings, facilities procurement, IT initiatives, working closely with numerous federal agencies including those within his new jurisdiction.

His previous roles include serving as Town Attorney in Eastchester, New York; General Counsel to both the United Federation of Special Police Officers Inc., and Association of Commuter Rail Employees; along with founding a general practice law firm that advised small businesses on real estate transactions among other legal matters.
