Carlos Jordan Lopez, a 29-year-old resident of Fresno, has been sentenced to a decade in prison. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston on Monday following Lopez's conviction for possessing with the intent to distribute approximately 107 pounds of fentanyl and about 39 pounds of cocaine. Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith made the announcement.
Court documents reveal that Lopez was apprehended on September 8, 2023, after being stopped for a traffic violation while driving northbound on Interstate 5 near Shields Avenue in Fresno County. A search of his vehicle's trunk uncovered a spare tire filled with 28 packages containing around 485,000 fentanyl pills. Additionally, officers discovered a bag containing 18 "bricks" of cocaine powder.
The investigation into this case was conducted by several agencies: the California Highway Patrol, the California High Impact Investigation Team, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Gilio and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Dennis Lewis were responsible for prosecuting the case.
