A man identified as Cameron Lynn has been sentenced to life imprisonment plus an additional ten years following his conviction for multiple crimes, including first-degree murder. U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell handed down the sentence in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lynn was found guilty of First Degree Murder in Indian Country, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Brandishing and Discharging a Firearm During a Crime of Violence, and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Indian Country.
U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson stated, "Cameron Lynn maliciously took the life of Alcides Monroig and assaulted another." He added that the sentence ensures Lynn will no longer pose a threat within the Northern District.
The incident occurred on February 24, 2024, when Tulsa Police responded to reports of gunfire near railroad tracks in a wooded area. Officers discovered two victims at an encampment; one victim was transported to a hospital with abdominal injuries while Alcides Monroig succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
According to testimony during the trial, Lynn approached the encampment while its occupants were asleep and began searching through their belongings. When asked to leave by flashlight-wielding residents, he refused and opened fire before fleeing.
Witnesses reported seeing Lynn approach the area prior to hearing gunshots. They testified that after firing shots, he claimed self-defense and urged them to vacate the vicinity.
Lynn is affiliated with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and remains in custody pending transfer to federal prison facilities under U.S. Bureau of Prisons jurisdiction. The investigation was conducted by both Tulsa Police Department and FBI officials, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kenneth Elmore and Stephen Flynn.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community groups across various levels. More information about PSN can be found at Justice.gov/PSN.
