A grand jury in the Southern District of Texas has issued a superseding indictment against 13 men from Houston, charging them with involvement in a robbery crew accused of engaging in various criminal activities. These activities include robbery, drug trafficking, obstruction of justice, and murder, notably involving the killing of two individuals in July 2023. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei, Supervisory Official Antoinette T. Bacon of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, and Special Agent in Charge Douglas A. Williams Jr. of the FBI.
The charged individuals are Derrick Dewayne Butler (also known as Kutt or Kutt Throat), Travon Maxwel (Goonie), Emmanuel Winnfield (Pimp), Herman Mitchell (Boobie), Tyrone Raymond Bolton (Honeybee), Joe Devon Champion (Champ), Jonta Allen Glover, Dewayne Donnell Champion (Wayne), Cedric Lynn Andrews (Ced), Jermar Ballard Jones (Mar), Christian Xavier Rucker (Gucci), Samuel Lamonte Draper, and Jeremy James Jenkins.
Each defendant faces up to 20 years for robbery conspiracy and a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life for drug distribution conspiracy if convicted. Additionally, all defendants face charges related to attempting to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. Jones is also charged with obstruction.
Butler, Rucker, and Jones face further charges including two counts of murder in aid of racketeering and firearm-related offenses tied to the killings on July 19, 2023. Conviction on these charges could result in life imprisonment or possibly the death penalty.
Other defendants also face additional penalties for firearm possession during drug trafficking crimes.
“There is no place in our community for groups that terrorize their fellow citizens,” stated Ganjei. “This superseding indictment alleges violent criminal acts and the tragic loss of two lives."
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and Houston Police Department with support from other federal agencies as part of initiatives targeting violent crime and organized crime networks.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Byron H. Black and Kelly Zenón-Matos are leading the prosecution alongside several Trial Attorneys from the Criminal Division’s Violent Crime and Racketeering Section.
This case falls under both Houston's Violent Crime Initiative and an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces investigation aimed at dismantling high-level criminal organizations through coordinated law enforcement efforts.
An indictment remains an allegation until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
