Two men from Perry, Florida, Tavariss Davis and Tobey Fitchett, have been indicted on federal drug and gun charges. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the indictment on February 14, 2025. The charges include violations of the Federal Controlled Substances Act and Federal Gun Control Act.
The indictment alleges that on August 1, 2024, Davis possessed with intent to distribute over 500 grams of a cocaine mixture and had a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. Davis was previously convicted of a felony in Florida, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
Fitchett is also accused of possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony in Florida. Both men were allegedly found with a Taurus Model GC3 nine-millimeter handgun.
Davis faces multiple counts: Count 1 for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances could result in ten years to life imprisonment if convicted. Count 2 involves possession of a firearm during drug trafficking, carrying five years to life imprisonment consecutively to any other sentence.
Fitchett is charged under Count 3 for illegal firearm possession due to his prior felony conviction, facing up to 15 years imprisonment if convicted. Similarly, Davis faces Count 4 for the same charge as Fitchett.
Both defendants are subject to fines up to $250,000 per count and mandatory special assessment fees. Simpson emphasized that the indictment is only an accusation and guilt must be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime through law enforcement collaboration and community engagement.
