Aaron Herndon, a 39-year-old resident of Suitland, Maryland, received an 18-month prison sentence for robbing an elderly man in Northwest D.C. The incident occurred on May 5, 2024. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr., and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Herndon admitted guilt on December 17, 2024. Superior Court Judge Jason Park also imposed three years of supervised release following his prison term.

The robbery took place at approximately 1:00 p.m. at a McDonald's restaurant located at 4100 Wisconsin Avenue NW. According to evidence presented by the government, Herndon approached the victim from behind as he exited the restroom and took his wallet from his jacket pocket. Multiple witnesses saw Herndon flee the scene on foot. He was arrested later that day wearing the same clothes he had during the robbery.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department with assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorneys Negar Kordestani and Trisha Jhunjhnuwala of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hannah Skopicki.
