A man from Corpus Christi has admitted to producing child sexual abuse material, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. The individual, identified as Valentine Cancino, entered a guilty plea for the charge of sexual exploitation of a child.
The investigation began after authorities received several cyber-tips regarding the upload of child pornography online. Law enforcement traced the content back to Cancino.
On January 30, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Cancino's residence in Corpus Christi and seized two electronic devices. Among them was a Samsung Galaxy cell phone containing a video recording of Cancino engaging in sexual activity with a minor relative.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 4 before U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos. Cancino could face up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He remains in custody until sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Corpus Christi Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Overman is prosecuting the case under Project Safe Childhood (PSC). This initiative by the Department of Justice aims to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse through federal, state, and local resources.
