A Shiprock man has entered a guilty plea to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon following an incident that resulted in one victim needing medical attention for facial injuries. Jerome Weaver, 21, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, admitted to using a firearm with the intent to cause bodily harm to two victims.
The court documents revealed that Weaver's actions led to significant injuries requiring medical treatment for one of the victims. Weaver will remain under conditions of release while awaiting sentencing, which is yet to be scheduled. He faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison and three years of supervised release.
Acting U.S. Attorney Holland S. Kastrin and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced the development. The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Brittany DuChaussee is handling the prosecution.
