The Butler County Problem-Solving Court is set to hold a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Butler County Courthouse located at 451 N. 5th Street in David City, Nebraska. Judge Tina Marroquin will preside over the ceremony.

This graduation marks a significant milestone for participants who have completed an intensive program that combines comprehensive behavioral health treatment with community supervision and accountability measures. The program aims to assist nonviolent drug-related offenders by offering an alternative path through the criminal justice system.

Problem-solving courts are designed to reduce recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. They operate within the existing court structure using a specialized team process. The primary goals of these courts include protecting public safety and increasing the chances of successful rehabilitation for participants. This is achieved through validated risk and need assessments, early and individualized treatment plans, frequent chemical testing, as well as incentives and sanctions.

Morgan Campbell, the Problem-Solving Court Coordinator, is available for interviews or additional information regarding the event. Campbell can be reached by phone at (402) 362-6540 or via email at morgan.campbell@nejudicial.gov. Media credentials are preferred for those covering the event.

The judicial power in Nebraska is distributed among several courts including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, district courts, and county courts. These state courts function under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court. Additionally, Nebraska's judicial system includes separate juvenile courts in Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy Counties along with a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court.
