Adair Ford Boroughs, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina

The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina has announced the departure of Adair Ford Boroughs as U.S. Attorney, following her termination by the new administration. Brook B. Andrews, who was serving as First Assistant U.S. Attorney, is now acting as the U.S. Attorney under the Vacancies Reform Act.

Andrews is a seasoned federal prosecutor who joined the Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program in 2009. His previous roles include Deputy Criminal Chief over the White Collar and General Crimes Section, District Ethics Officer, and Assistant U.S. Attorney handling various criminal, civil, and appellate matters. Andrews holds degrees from Davidson College, George Washington University, and the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Adair Ford Boroughs became United States Attorney in July 2022 after being nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the Senate. During her tenure, she managed a staff of about 140 attorneys and support personnel and focused on enforcing federal civil rights laws while collaborating with law enforcement to tackle violent crime.

Boroughs' office achieved five federal hate crime convictions and organized seven United Against Hate events with FBI Columbia to educate about federal hate crime statutes and encourage reporting incidents. She emphasized prosecuting offenders contributing to violence in South Carolina communities through multi-defendant indictments targeting gun trafficking rings, illegal narcotics operations, gang violence, human trafficking, child exploitation, and white-collar crimes.

“It has been the honor of my career to return to the Department of Justice and to serve alongside the men and women of the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” said Adair Ford Boroughs. “The career men and women of this office work tirelessly day in and day out to meet the Department’s mission–to uphold the rule of law, keep our country safe, and protect civil rights."
