Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced that Leroy Otero, a 35-year-old resident of Texas, has pled guilty to charges related to methamphetamine distribution. The plea was entered before United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter on February 4, 2025.
Otero admitted to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 500 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine. This is in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), (b)(1)(A), and 846.
Otero faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment. He may also be fined up to $10 million and will have at least five years of supervised release along with a mandatory special assessment fee.
Sentencing for Otero is scheduled for May 29, 2025.
The investigation by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents revealed that Otero supplied large quantities of methamphetamine to local dealers in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes.
The case involved several law enforcement agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Houma Police Department, the Louisiana State Police, and the Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Offices. Assistant United States Attorney Maurice Landrieu from the Narcotics Unit prosecuted the case.
