An Albuquerque resident, Kyle Majedi, is facing new charges of drug trafficking and firearms offenses while already in custody awaiting trial on other federal charges. According to court documents, Majedi, 45, allegedly possessed with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and heroin on March 7, 2020. Additionally, he is accused of possessing a firearm during these alleged activities despite being prohibited from firearm possession due to a previous conviction.
Majedi is currently held on separate charges related to firearm possession as a felon. His trial for these charges is set for April 7, 2025. If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. The new allegations could lead to a sentence ranging from 15 years to life imprisonment, along with five years to life on supervised release if convicted.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Brendan Iber from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced these developments. The ATF led the investigation with support from the New Mexico Department of Justice. Assistant United States Attorney Natasha Moghadam will prosecute both cases.
The indictment stems from efforts by the newly established Firearms Trafficking Task Force in New Mexico. This task force collaborates with state and local law enforcement agencies such as the Albuquerque Police Department and Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office to combat firearms trafficking organizations involved in violent crimes within the community.
