Attorney General Alan Wilson has expressed his views following the recent oral arguments before the South Carolina Supreme Court regarding the state's Fetal Heartbeat Act. The hearing marks the third occasion that Wilson's office has presented arguments to the court in defense of this legislation.
In a statement, Attorney General Wilson emphasized the clarity of the legislature's intent behind the act. "This is the third time my office has gone to the state Supreme Court to fight to uphold our state’s Fetal Heartbeat Act. The legislature’s intent was clear—to protect life once a heartbeat is detected," he stated.
Wilson also extended his gratitude towards the justices for their engagement during the proceedings. "We thank the justices for their attention and thoughtful questions and look forward to their ruling," he said.
Reaffirming his commitment, Wilson concluded, "I will always fight to uphold the sanctity of life."
The outcome of this case remains pending as both sides await a decision from South Carolina's highest court.
