Omari Rashad Moore, a 30-year-old resident of Nashville, has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm following a shooting incident near the Green Hills mall. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Robert E. McGuire for the Middle District of Tennessee.

"Citizens in our community need to feel confident that they can go shopping at a mall without fearing gunfire," said McGuire. "We are unwavering in our commitment to secure a safe city and hold those who would threaten that safety fully accountable for their actions."

The complaint details an event on February 4, 2025, when officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) responded to reports of a possible robbery and shots fired at the Mall at Green Hills. Concurrently, there was another report about a shooting near the I-65 South and I-440 Interstate interchange, approximately five miles from the mall.

Upon arriving at the mall, officers discovered two .10 millimeter cartridge casings and a high-capacity magazine containing .10 millimeter ammunition but found no victim or suspect. At the interchange area, MNPD officers encountered a silver Tesla crashed into a tree. Inside were two Louis Vuitton bags and nearby were Moore and another individual identified as SUBJECT 1. A witness reported seeing Moore approach a guardrail after exiting the crashed vehicle. Near this location, officers found a Glock Model: 29 pistol missing its magazine.

SUBJECT 1 suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital where he later died.

Security footage reviewed by MNPD detectives showed Moore involved in an altercation with another man at the mall before fleeing with two shopping bags.

Moore has prior felony convictions in Henderson County and Davidson County, Tennessee. If convicted on these new charges, he faces up to 15 years in federal prison along with a $250,000 fine.

The case is under investigation by both the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary T. Hinkle is prosecuting.

A federal complaint is merely an allegation; Moore is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
