Edgar Castro, a 40-year-old resident of Marysville, has been charged with assaulting a federal employee. The arrest was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Court documents reveal that the incident occurred on September 9, 2024. Castro allegedly attacked a United States Postal Service worker while the employee was stopped at a red light in Marysville. After pulling alongside the postal vehicle, Castro reportedly shouted, “What … are you looking at?” before exiting his vehicle and approaching the driver's side of the postal truck.

Castro is accused of reaching through the open window and striking the postal worker in the head and neck area. This initial attack resulted in the employee's badge and lanyard being thrown into the street. When the postal worker attempted to retrieve his badge, Castro allegedly struck him again, causing a fractured nose.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted an investigation leading to these charges. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Nchekube Onyima is handling prosecution duties for this case.

If found guilty, Castro could face up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. However, any sentence will be determined by the court after considering statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines. It is important to note that these charges are allegations; Castro is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
