Aaron Michael Correia, a 38-year-old resident of San Joaquin County, has been sentenced to five years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Court documents reveal that Correia was discovered with a loaded .22 Ruger revolver and a box of .22 caliber ammunition during a traffic stop. His possession of these items is prohibited due to his multiple state felony convictions, including previous offenses in 2017 and 2021 for being a felon in possession of a firearm within San Joaquin County.

The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by the Manteca Police Department, the Stockton Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Haddy Abouzeid led the prosecution.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that collaborates with various levels of law enforcement and community members to reduce violent crime and gun violence while aiming to enhance neighborhood safety. On May 26, 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice launched an enhanced strategy for reducing violent crime under PSN. This strategy emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence before it occurs, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
