A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for producing child pornography. U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange delivered the sentence on February 7, 2025, as announced by United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell.
Len Homelvig, aged 55, was indicted in May 2024 by a federal grand jury on three counts of production of child pornography. As part of a plea agreement with the United States, he pleaded guilty to one count on October 25, 2024. In addition to his prison term, Homelvig will face five years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund along with $8,000 in restitution. He is also required to register as a sex offender upon release.
The conviction resulted from an investigation that began in December 2023 when images of naked minor females were discovered on Homelvig’s phone. The photographs and videos were identified as those of female foster children living in his home. Homelvig used his phone to capture these images by sliding it under bathroom doors or placing it over shower curtains while the minors were undressing or showering. The investigation revealed that he victimized five females residing in the home, four of whom were minors.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
The investigation was conducted by the Sioux Falls Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth A. Ebert-Webb prosecuting the case.
Homelvig has been remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
